I will take any excuse to get away from my desk for an hour in the middle of the day. So when I heard about the lunch time YOGA session with the KFit and ModelCo I jumped at the chance. What better reason to escape my desk and get away from my admin work for a much needed mental health hour!
Although the weather was forecast for rain it appeared to be holding out so I rugged up, grabbed my matt and headed down to the scenic Hyde Park, Sydney. Thankfully the rain gods did hold out long enough for us to salute the sun a few times, get in some downward facing dog, and finish happier than a baby with our legs in the air and a smile on our faces. Not only did we have an awesome practice on the grass but we were also serenaded with some acoustic guitar by a Sydney musician and gifted with some ModelCo goodies! Having a busy day of admin on the schedule can get a bit stressful for some of us, I know it does for me. My Asana Yoga were the instructors for the day and did a fantastic job helping everyone to switch off and go from ‘work mode’ to ‘yoga mode’.
Exercise is a great way to clear the mind and increase workplace productivity. In fact studies show that people who exercise on workdays are more productive, happier, and suffer less stress. The trick is to find the correct ratio between your high intensity and lower intensity styles to balance out our central nervous system and bring our back to equilibrium, and a lower state of stress. Remember the human body will always strive for balance, and will do whatever necessary to get there. They say in meditation that the body turns up way before the mind does… So next time you notice a sore knee, tight back, niggling shoulder, or a stiff neck, take the time to notice what your body is trying to tell you.
It is easy to get caught up in the fast paced “must work harder” to lose weight mindset. It goes with how we have been raised, hearing things like “If you want results, you need to work harder” or “stop being lazy” however, over time if you don’t slow down in some areas of your training you are increasing your risk of overtraining, which can eventually cause injuries and lead to total burn out. I find that when clients create a more nurturing workout balance, results happen much faster.
Finding this balance can be difficult, especially when it comes to choosing a fitness facility that caters for all of your needs under the one roof. Sure they may have a bit of everything, but it’s hard to find a facility that specialises is everything. This is where KFIT steps in and completely changes the game.
