Or just Michelle, as the bubbly 28 year-old tells her students. Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Michelle is an active and spunky Zumba teacher at Arte E Vida Dance Studio in Solaris Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

KFit catches Michelle right after a very full Monday night class. Almost 90% of her class that evening were students from KFit and everyone is shuffling out with grins on their faces. Michelle herself is smiling ear-to-ear.

Great class, Michelle!
M: Thanks!

Zumba seems like something you really love doing. How long have you been teaching Zumba?
M: It is coming to about 3 years now that I have been teaching Zumba classes. I was previously a dance instructor. I came across Zumba one day and found it so interesting. So I took a license to become a Zumba teacher and here I am!

What do you love most about Zumba?
M: Zumba is really fun. The music is great and you don’t need to have a lot of technique to be able to do Zumba. When I am doing Zumba, it feels like a party! There is also a lot of joy in teaching Zumba. I see a lot of people having fun and getting fit and that’s what I like.

What’s your favourite song to dance to?
M: I have too many favourites! And they always change. But from tonight’s set list, I like Atrevete by BIP.

How do you choose the songs for your class?
M: I really have to like the song and enjoy it for my students to enjoy it too!

What would you like to tell those who would like to try Zumba?
M: For beginners, don’t worry about the right and wrong movement. Don’t be shy. Just follow what the teacher is doing and most importantly, have fun!
